Russell Marsh

Former Global Chief Data Officer

IPG Mediabrands

He has over 20 years experience in the digital industry with roles covering everything from Senior Creative Director, Managing Director to Group Strategy Director.

At Mediabrands Russell was responsible for driving the integrated data strategy and how new data sets could be connected to improve media targeting. As part of this he also championed the development of data audits, guidelines and working practices to ensure data was used in an ethical way.

Previously Russell worked at the direct marketing agency RAPP as Group Strategy Director and Global Head of Mobile, where he was responsible for all of the Strategy, Planning, Analytics and User Experience groups across 5 European offices.

Originally brought in to RAPP as Group Digital Strategy Director to build a new digital practice across the whole of the business, he took them to being recognised now as one of the top integrated digital agencies in the UK.

One year in, he was made the Group Strategy Director to head up RAPPs newly formed Strategy & Enablement Group across the UK and Europe. This global initiative brought together Data, Strategy, Technology and Creative. These key disciplines formed the cornerstones for RAPP to develop more integrated communications. Russell passionately believes that integrated communications have to start with integrated thinking.

In the last year, he took on the responsibility for driving the innovation around new big data platforms like Hadoop to bring together both traditional CRM data and Media Data to create new targeting and insight platforms.

Prior to this he was Managing Director at Agency.com and Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all Omnicom agencies working with Proctor & Gamble across EMEA.

He has a broad range of client experience including clients like Mercedes, Philips, GSK, British Airways, BBC, Virgin Media, Amazons Love FIlm, Tescos Blinkbox, Apple, Vertu, Skype, Orange, AkzoNobel, Barclaycard.

In his spare time, as well as “geeking” out with technology, he has a love of adventure including skiing, martial arts, climbing and has even been known to jump out of aeroplanes and swim with sharks every now and again.
