A year ago today, I was planning the Sydney CDO Summit.
It was to be our inaugural summit in Australia, and I wanted everything to be perfect, like our NYC and London events.
As usual, I was driving myself really hard.
When I heard that January 26 was Australia Day, I was psyched. Not to get a day off – since my office in NY does not recognize Australian holidays.
No, I was psyched because the local holiday meant that I could take advantage of an “extra” day of work while Australians were off, and hopefully get ahead of the game.
But then, something extraordinary happened. My aussie friend encouraged me to take the day off, and join her fellow Australians celebrating their nation’s founding.
After all, she said, it could be a good photo opp.
That sealed the deal. As some of you know, I am a camera nut. Matter of fact, I took all the photos you see in these emailers, for our ads, and on our websites.
Of course, I had a great time. I met incredible people like the ones below, witnessed a fantastic celebration, and took lots of photos and video, some of which I posted online.
One of my videos caught the attention of someone at the Premier and Cabinet at the NSW Government. She wanted to feature my video on the Australia Day website!
Fast forward one year. This time, she invited me to join the media team and journalist pool on the main ship, the Royal Navy’s HMAS Canberra, right in the middle of Sydney Harbour!
The view from the ship offered spectacular views of the Sydney Opera House, Harbour bridge, and Luna Park. Needless to say, I had the time of my life.
