How Capgemini, The New York Times, Mashable,
Neustar, and The City of NY Leverage Big Data
LEARN – SHARE – NETWORK The CDO Summit is the premier event for digital & data leaders Wednesday, 28 September, 2016 London, England
Time to switch up metaphors: the big data “needle in the haystack” is turning into a big data goldmine.
When we asked a panel of data experts how they leveraged big data in their organizations, the answers were nothing short of astonishing:
The New York Times built a model to accurately predict when someone was going to cancel their subscription.
The City Of New York created a Business Atlas with publicly available information on nearly every business in the city.
Mashable designed an algorithm to predict what content would go viral on social media, as soon as 30 minutes after it’s posted.
Neustar helped Lenovo to send customized marketing messages to users who accessed their site for the very first time, and increased click-through by 40% as a result.
If you’re overwhelmed by the sheer amount of data available to your organization (and you should be), then watch this panel presentation on “Finding the Needle in the Big Data Haystack,” held at the 3rd annual NYC CDO Summit, sponsored by Capgemini, held at Thomson Reuters in NYC on April 29, 2015.
Jeff Hunter (moderator): previously VP, N.A. Leader: Business Information Management Group at Capgemini, now Partner, Risk Assurance at PwC
Amen Mashariki: Chief Analytics Officer at NYC Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics
Haile Owusu, PhD: Chief Data Scientist at Mashable
John Caldwell: previously SVP Market Development & Business Operations at Neustar, now President & Founder at Lenox Street Consulting & member of board at StatSocial
Christine Hung: previously Executive Director, Data Science & Engineering at The New York Times, now Head of Analytics Consulting at Spotify
And as the examples above show, the level of innovation in how big data is used is only increasing.
