The speaker coming the longest distance is probably Paul Shetler, former CEO of the Digital Transformation Office for the Australian Government, flying to DC all the way from Sydney Australia.
CDO Club CEO David Mathison was impressed by Paul’s keynotes at previous CDO Summits in England (2014) and Australia (in both 2016 & 2017), and felt his message was important for US audiences to hear, especially in Washington DC.
Paul’s morning keynote is on “Lessons Learnt Transforming Government in UK And Australia,” which explores Paul’s experience leading government digital transformation efforts in Australia and the U.K. His session will highlight ‘best practices’ that can be applied to both public and private sector initiatives.
From 2015 to 2017, Paul was CEO of the Australian Government’s Digital Transformation Office (DTO). The 2015-16 Australian Federal Budget included AUD $95.4 million to establish the DTO as part of a AUD $254.7 million “Digital Transformation Agenda,” to provide more efficient digitally-delivered government services.
Prior to this, Paul was Director at the U.K.’s Government Digital Service (GDS). From January 2014 to February 2015, Paul was Chief Digital Officer at the UK Ministry of Justice (MOJ), where he was tasked with digitally transforming the way the public use government services, from booking a visit to a prison to filing a civil claim.
Under Paul’s leadership, the Ministry of Justice delivered four of the UK Government’s 25 digital transformation exemplars.
